Our class had a great time at Shelburne Farms even with very rainy weather. We were able to milk a cow, find chicken eggs, play with baby goats, and have a great time in the dramatic play area.

Our Chicks Have Arrived
Our Class Greets Our New Chicks!!!
Our students have been so excited to have the chicks hatch and to be able to be parents to them. Our farm unit is always such a fun way to end our year.

Tapping School Trees
Our Class Helps Mr. Hoben Tap Our School Maple Trees
Last week we helped Mr. Hoben and Mr. D tap the maple trees on our school grounds. They showed us the proper way to drill, tap the tree, and hang the buckets. They also talked about what to look for when trying to find a maple tree in winter. On Thursday we will get to try the maple syrup that Mr. Hoben and Mr. D boiled to make maple syrup. Yum!

Branon's Sugarhouse
Our Class Takes A Trip To A Sugarhouse
Our class got to go and see how a big sugaring operation is run. We learned about reverse osmosis, how to obtain lots of sap from a big sugarbush, and see where large amounts of sap are stored and processed. We visited the woods to look at boosters which work as vacuums to bring sap to the sugarhouse. The students toured the operation and saw a very modern evaporator. We, of course, got to try some of the product. The class tried maple cream with sliced apples and had sugar on snow.
